Focus on HIV/AIDS

When HIV first emerged into the public eye in the 1980s, there was very little information available about the disease, how it was contracted and methods of treatment. Forty years on, we know much more but HIV remains one of the worst global epidemics, with around 34 million cases worldwide. HIV is a very important subject for schools as it is both a global and a local issue. Exploring HIV with a linked school in Ethiopia gives a global context to the issue and allows pupils in both schools to realise that many issues surrounding HIV are the same in both countries and that a universal response is needed to stop the spread.

Our HIV/AIDS related resources encourage students to explore issues surrounding HIV/AIDS and its causes, ways of transmission and treatment. Students will learn about the global prevalence of HIV/AIDS, particularly in the developing world.
