Ethiopia is currently on track to reach Millenium Development Goal two (MDG2) of universal primary education for all by 2015 which is a real achievement.  However, this surge in school enrollment is pushing Ethopian schools beyond their capacity and as a result, the quality of education may be decreasing. Railways

By Ethiopian News

Ethiopia has, at this moment, only one railway, stretching from Lagare in Addis Ababa to Djibouti. But this has fallen into disuse in recent years and the Ethiopian Government is very much considering the building of new railways in order to improve the country’s transportation infrastructure. Civil engineering and design work is being undertaken to build 2,516 km of railways in Ethiopia over the next five years, says Transport Minister Deriba Kuma. He said that a detailed study of the…

Africa’s lone wolf: New species found in Ethiopia

By Ethiopian News

Genetic evidence shows that ‘Egyptian jackal’ isn’t really a jackal at all. During a field expedition to Ethiopia, a team of scientists noticed something odd: The golden jackals there looked more slender with a whiter coat than they do elsewhere. Now, genetic analyses suggest these oddities are not jackals at all but instead more closely related to gray wolves. In fact, until now these “highland jackals” were referred to as Egyptian jackals (Canis aureus lupaster), and had long been considered…

And the second, to which we would like to bring everyone’s notice, is that Nick Francis, ex-Link Ethiopia volunteer, and his brother Marc have at last completed their long-awaited film called “When China met Africa”. The film festival, as…
