School Support Programme

Our School Support Programme gives school pupils an opportunity to learn about Ethiopia and engage in a fundraising project that will have a real impact on a particular

Keen learning
community and their school in Ethiopia.

For schools wanting to have a greater involvement with an Ethiopian community, putting their pupils in personal and individual contact with Ethiopian school children and making a real commitment to that school and its pupils, we invite them to look into establishing a full School Link with our support.

With our School Support Programme, pupils from the UK learn about Ethiopia, its colourful history and its fascinating culture. But they also have an opportunity to help a specific community.

How does it work?

Link Ethiopia introduces a school to a particular Ethiopian community in the north of the country. We provide a pack of materials that is tailored to this community, which teachers and pupils can use to learn more about daily life in Ethiopia, about people's interests and concerns, and of their schooling situation.

Link Ethiopia provides regular monthly email news updates as well as occasional extra resources such as CDs of Ethiopian music or posters for displays.

How does it benefit Ethiopia?

Secondary school students
Alongside the important benefits of helping UK pupils to gain a better understanding of Ethiopia and its people, Link Ethiopia also helps in identifying resourcing needs within the community’s school and gives the UK schools the opportunity to fundraise towards these, with lots of advice and support along the way.

We have a Country Manager in Ethiopia who coordinates all activities in the region, providing feedback and photos on the development of all projects undertaken.

On completion of a fundraising project, schools receive a certificate to commemorate their fundraising efforts.

How long does this last?

A primary lesson
There is no particular time limit for a school taking part in our School Support Programme. A school may decide that such a project fits in with just a term’s study, although it is more usual for it to be an activity undertaken for the whole year.

As mentioned above, if you are interested in building stronger longer-term links with the Ethiopian school you may be interested in our School Linking Programme.

What will all this cost?

Link Ethiopia does not ask for any extra contributions for its School Support Programme. This work is subsidised by our various other activities and by a range of sponsors supporting our work.
