Schools are only as effective as the teaching inside them. Link Ethiopia believes the learning process can be enhanced with appropriate teaching aids and resources, and ongoing teacher training. We are committed to improving the quality of education in Ethiopian schools in this regard, offering staff the opportunity to teach in new and exciting ways which stimulates them and as a result their pupils.
Here you can read about two areas in which we are working to improve teaching resources.
In partnership with the local Teacher Training Centre in Gondar we have provided funds to enable the creation of three sizeable boxes of interesting classroom resources for rural schools.
These resources include locally made visual aids, games, mini-blackboards and other items which are typically difficult for rural teachers to gain access to. The Teacher Training Centre also provides training and support for the staff in how to use the resources.
Secondary and Preparatory school lessons in Ethiopia are all taught in English. Our teaching scheme run by 'gap year' volunteers focuses on improving spoken English within small groups of students at secondary and preparatory level.
To support these lessons Link Ethiopia provides interesting and bespoke material specifically suited to teaching English as a second language. This material engages students in activities which develop their conversation skills and improves their confidence.
