Hygienic sanitation provision in schools is key to reducing the spread of disease and subsequent illness amongst school pupils. Sickness immediately impacts on school attendance and a young person's resulting education. Link Ethiopia is working with schools and local communities to identify and support appropriate toilet projects, providing decent and long-lasting santiation solutions for their young people.
Here you can find out about two of the toilet projects we recently funded.
The Kebele 16 Elementary School caters for 1,800 pupils on the outskirts of Gondar town. For a number of years the toilet facilities at the school were totally unsuitable for their pupils.
Link Ethiopia worked in partnership with the local community to fund a new toilet block, with eight toilets, for female pupils. We are currently working to support an equivalent boys block.
This secondary school in the centre of Gondar town provides Grade 9 and 10 education to 2,900 pupils. Their toilet facilities are basic, old and damaged.
We are currently working with the school to fund a new toilet block made of solid blocks which will last well into the future.
