Health and Well-being

Health and well-being go hand in hand with education. Many Ethiopian schools lack clean running water or toilet facilities. When children are unable to drink safe water, use proper toilets, or wash their hands, water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea and parasites spread easily.

Diseases such as these are the biggest killer of children in Ethiopia. Frequent illness means that children miss important parts of their education. Moreover, many pupils, especially girls, are deterred from attending by lack of privacy and proper facilities for their needs.

Our Work

By providing clean water and appropriate toilet facilities in schools, Link Ethiopia helps improve the health of thousands of children every year. A healthy, clean environment is a positive learning environment and makes a big difference to enrolment rates amongst girls.

We aim to make all our sanitation projects sustainable by ensuring facilities are cleaned and maintained and by encouraging hygiene education. We work with people to find the most culturally sensitive and effective ways of imparting these messages. By starting with pupils in schools, good hygiene practice can spread to families and the entire community!
