Heavy road transport
Ethiopia has one railway, built by the French at the beginning of the 20th century. It links the capital, Addis Ababa, with the port of Djibouti at the bottom of the Red Sea. It is 681 km in length up to the country border. It is narrow 1.000m gauge.

Ethiopia has a total of 28,500 km of highways of which 4.275 km are paved.

Urban buses

Ethiopia now has no ports or harbours. It is landlocked. Since the disagreement with Eritrea, it no longer uses the ports of Massawa and Assab and now relies on the port of Djibouti for nearly all of its imports.

Ethiopia has a total of 85 airports, a dozen of these having paved runways.
