Computer support and training

Computers are an integral part of our everyday lives and computer literacy is more and more of a necessity to live in the modern world. However, as technology progresses, the digital divide between rich and poor countries is becoming ever wider and young people in countries like Ethiopia risk being left behind. By giving computer support and training to both teachers and pupils, you will give them the life-long skills necessary to flourish in the increasingly sophisticated Ethiopian job market. You don't need to be an expert in programming, you just need to be able to find your way round a computer, teach basic skills and perhaps repair minor problems.

What you'll be doing

Visiting a number of schools on a weekly basis to give training to teachers on the basics of using computers, word processing, spread sheets and the internet so that they can continue to impart these skills to other teachers and other students. You will also be able to help them with straightforward issues, such as installing software and hardware. In schools where there are enough computers, you will teach small classes of extra-curricular computer skills.

Why you are needed

Each of the schools we work with have received donated computers, however, there is a severe lack of trained staff and many computers suffer from easily repairable issues which means they are not fully utilised. Computer skills are vital for young people in our modern world and giving them these skills at school is a head start for getting a good job or attending university.
