Maritu’s Story

Maritu is bright. But her future isn’t.

Every day, Maritu walks for two hours to attend school. She works hard and wants to become a teacher so that she can help her community.

But Maritu does not know how much longer she will be able to attend school. Rising food and living costs mean her family are facing a stark choice: putting food on the table or sending Maritu to school.

Without an education, Maritu will have few choices. She may end up working for little pay in bad conditions, in early marriage, or worse. Without an education, Maritu won’t have a chance to improve her life and the lives of those in her community.
