How it works

When you sponsor a child with Link Ethiopia, you will receive a welcome pack filled with information about your child, their school and their community.

We ensure you are regularly updated on the developments of your sponsored child and its school in Ethiopia. Each year you will receive:

  • A letter and/or picture from your child (or a letter from the parent/teacher of a younger child). We will translate Amharic letters into English for you.
  • A list of the resources your child has received, signed by the child.
  • Wherever possible, the school exam results for your child.
  • News of the projects completed and under construction in your child’s school, thanks to your support.
  • Monthly news email updates on Link Ethiopia’s work.

We encourage you to exchange letters with your sponsored child and learn about their life and their fascinating country. Link Ethiopia can also arrange trips for you to meet your child, visit their school and see the difference you are making to a community in one of the poorest countries in the world.

Link Ethiopia’s in-country team works with schools to identify the most vulnerable children - those at the greatest risk of dropping out of school due to chronic poverty. Once we have found a sponsor, our experienced team manage your donations and distribute school supplies directly to your child, so you can be sure your support is going to the right place. We also visit the schools regularly to check on the sponsored children and ensure they have everything they need.

In addition, Link Ethiopia works with teachers and the wider school community to identify projects to improve the overall quality of education. Projects funded by sponsorship are carried out every year and regularly monitored to ensure they are carried out on time and to a high standard. Typical projects have included well-built classrooms to replace temporary shelters, clean running water and proper toilets, library facilities and extra textbooks. We will keep you updated on the progress of projects in your sponsored school and tell you how those projects are benefitting the wider community.
